ThumbstickMafia is dedicated to supporting and promoting diverse women in gaming – we’re happy to introduce a spotlight to gamers, content creators, streamers, developers and members of the industry.
Today’s spotlight is on Gabrielle from HappyDagger!
In her own words: My name is Gabrielle but I go by Gabby. I’m am 28 years old and your typical artsy-fartsy type. I love gaming and have a deep appreciation for story line above anything. I enjoy art, music, reading, and my two fur babies. I was born in Florida, but thanks to my dad being in the Navy, I was raised a little bit of everywhere. I have just recently started a gaming channel on YT called HappyDagger mediocre gaming.
You have both a twitch channel and a YouTube Gaming channel – which platform do you prefer?
As of right now I prefer YT only because I’m always on the go. So from a consumer standpoint, YT is way more convenient for me. From a creator standpoint, I love the twitch community and how simple they make it to connect with your fan-base.
What got you interested in creating content on YouTube?
I spend a lot of time on YT, I don’t watch regular TV.
There seems to be two major types of gamers online; the ones who play around and troll – then you have the hardcore gamers the are super serious and rage a lot. I fall somewhere in the middle. I love gaming but i’m not the best at it. It seems like there is a lack of fun (especially in the fps genre) when it comes to games. Games were meant to be fun thing to do whether with friends or alone to relax. It seems these days everything’s a competition.
I just wanted to bring it back to how I remember growing up. One day I was thinking to myself “ I could do this. There really is not reason not to do it. I already game. I might as well record it.” So I did. A lot of people are under the impression you have to be great do it this, but the reality is that you really don’t. Get out there and have fun.
I wanted to create a place where people like me who love gaming but don’t take it too seriously could come and be a community. That’s how HDMG was born.
What’s your favorite genre?
Favorite development studio?
While BioWare created my all time favorite games (The Mass Effect series ) I’m gonna have to go with Ubisoft. Of my Top 10 games list, Ubisoft has made at least half of them
You recently finished the Walking Dead – what were you first impressions? Would you recommend it?
I love this game so much! I’m not a huge fan of point and click games, but the story was so good that I didn’t even care. This is actually my second play through. With season 3 being announced at E3 *squeels* I just had to go back and relive the story. I will be posting season 2, and the Michonne spin off as well, soon.
Do you have any interests outside of gaming? If so, please share!
Reading! I love to read. I have 100s of books. Its really absurd lol. I am also an avid lover of all things Batman. I collect DC comics, most of them being batman, and statues. I am also a huge music lover. You won’t find me without a pair of headphones nearby. I listen to just about every genre. It’s a running joke at work that If i’m around you won’t need shazam, just ask me.
Any other upcoming projects?
Right now my main focus is my YT channel. I have a lot of things planned for it. Right I am playing through Battlefield Frontline. After that is complete, all games after that will have a commentary or no commentary version for whichever you prefer. I also have unboxings for ArcadeBlock and LootGaming lined up. Currently, I do giveaways on Twitter. If things pick up I will be giving away the entire box as a Thank you.
What game “won” E3 2016 for you? What games are you most looking forward to?
Oh my goodness, I’m looking forward to more games than my wallet is going to be able to keep up with. Off bat, Mass Effect Andromeda. I’ve been waiting since Mass Effect 3 for this game. I’m sad there will be no more Commander Shepard. But I still need this in my life. Tom Clancy’s Wildlands and We happy few as well. I’m also going to have to invest in a Ps4 because Detroit become human is something I’m definitely gonna have to get my hands on.
What album can you listen to, without skipping any songs?
Every Time I Die’s The Big Dirty and The Used’s In Love and Death are my go tos.
One place you wish you could go?
Once place you’re happy you’ve been?
Any shows that have you excited for next season?
The Walking Dead, Orange is the New Black, and Game of thrones are killing me with their cliff hangers. My heart can’t take it.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Be kind to one another. You never know what someone is going through 🙂
