ThumbstickMafia is dedicated to supporting and promoting diverse women in gaming – we’re happy to introduce a spotlight to gamers, content creators, streamers, developers and members of the industry.
Today’s Spotlight is on RahhjinBuu!
In her own words: I am a writer/editor/manager over at OurcadeGames.com – a gaming website dedicated to presenting gaming from the black perspective, but all gamers are welcome. I’ve been gaming since the original SuperMarioBros and I’m proud to be raising up a new generation of gamer in my son.
How did you get into content creating / broadcasting?
Well, it wasn’t intentional, I never thought anyone would want to watch me play video games. When I started working with Ourcade Games, we talked about what kind of content we wanted to create and streaming was right up there. It’s a great way to interact with our readers directly.
As a new streamer, what’s been the most challenging for you?
Whew. That’s gotta be remembering I’m on stream, lol. I don’t talk much unless I’m complaining about the game. Sometimes you really are just talking to yourself. Hopefully, I’ll get better at interacting and the theatrics of streaming.
What games do you currently have in rotation?
Currently, I’m playing Fallout, Broforce, and Street Fighter. More Fallout than anything, because of the RPG grind, but Street Fighter is bringing up the rear because I have to get tournament ready soon.
What’s your stream schedule like?
I stream everyday. I do have a set stream time, and that’s every weekday after the gym (around 11am cst). and typically every week night around 9pm.
Tell us more about OurcadeGames? How can we support that project?
OurcadeGames.com is a website dedicated to bringing good, quality content to our readers. By Gamers, For Gamers. We do special articles like the series we’re in the middle of now: #OperationCodeBlack which is a profile series on black men and women in video game development. It’s not meant to be exclusionary, rather provide a new perspective on issues important to a growing diverse gaming community.
What is your fondest game memory?
I guess it’s between three things, and two of them have to do with co-ops.
One, alone, would be sneaking and hooking up my uncle’s Sega Genesis to play Sonic & Knuckles while he took my grandmother to the grocery store. He had this elaborate set up, with the controllers on the walls.
The other two, gaming with Tashaun, and my son. Tashaun and I actually platinum-ed Mercenary Kings together. It’s always fun to play with my son, because he doesn’t think I know as much as he does about certain games (and sometimes I don’t)
Interests outside of gaming?
I’m a church girl (O_O) so I spend a lot of time at choir rehearsal, bible study, and being a youth leader. I love cooking, creating and learning new recipes and techniques. I also draw a LITTLE bit. Just a little.
New favorite musical artist / band?
I’m soft. I love R&B, and my favorite artist is Raheem DeVaughn. But when I’m playing Tekken online, nothing works like some Beyonce.
Who would you love to game with? (Dead or alive)
HARADA-SAN! (Katsuhiro Harada is the producer and game director for the Tekken series)
Where can we find you?
